Steps to get started with Extended Sculpt Tools. > Blender 2.90 recommended for new features like new Vertex paint brush

You can get the addon here-

First Steps

Step 1 - Install the add-on

Extract the downloaded file.
Now open Blender and goto Edit > Preferences > Add-ons > Install and navigate to where you extracted the add-on and click install.
Enable the add-on and save preferences. A new panel “EST” will be added to N-panel.

Step 2 - Setting up Custom Meshes for Extended Sculpt Tools

A custom workspace file has been provided with the add-on.
Goto File > Open > navigate to extracted folder and select “EST_Custom_Startup.blend” and click open.

Custom Meshes set-up

In the custom workspace outliner, you will see a collection “EST_est custom mesh”. This collection has some custom meshes which is available in the Insert Mesh panel of the addon.

Collections with name starting with “EST_” will be detected by the addon and it will show it in the panel. Any meshes in that collection will be available for inserting in sculpt mode.

Guide to create a sample custom mesh for inserting in sculptmode

In Object mode–
Create a new collection “EST_my custom object”. Select the collection and press SHIFT+A in 3D view > Mesh > Monkey. This will add Monkey to the new collection. If it is not added in the new collection, in the outliner drag the monkey object to the new collection.

If you now check in Insert Mesh panel- your collection and custom object will be available.

THINGS TO REMEMBER WHEN CREATING CUSTOM MESH OR CUSTOM COLLECTION for InsertMesh

  • In order to be detected by addon, make sure the collection name starts with “EST_”
    name
  • Make sure the custom mesh is in Object mode.
  • In edit mode of custom object, make sure all vertices are selected.

  • Disable Selection, Visibility and render of Custom collections in the Outliner

How to insert mesh in sculpt mode

SHIFT + RIGHT CLICK where you want to insert > go to insert mesh panel and select the mesh you want to insert.
Inserting mesh supports symmetry(X,Y,Z). For example- If X-symmetry is On, then the mesh will be added in x-mirrored location also.
To insert meshes in the middle of an object, use X-snap/Y-snap/Z-snap toggles. Enabling the snapping will insert mesh at origin of respective axis.
> NOTE: Turn off X/Y/Z symmetry when using Snapping or it will add multiple meshes at same location.
